Pharmacology is a dynamic field of medicine focused on studying the effects of drugs on living organisms. It draws upon expertise from various basic science disciplines, including Physiology, Biochemistry, and Cellular & Molecular Biology. Established in September 2016, the Department of Pharmacology at NIMS has been actively engaged in both academics and research since its inception. The department boasts state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, including lecture galleries, demo rooms, a Computer-Assisted Laboratory for simulated studies, a clinical skills lab equipped with mannequins, a museum, and a dedicated research lab.
The department's primary goal is to impart a deep understanding of pharmacological and therapeutic concepts, underpinned by robust knowledge of basic sciences. This foundation facilitates the practice of rational drug use. Additionally, the department plays a key role in the activities of the Institutional Ethics Committee and is instrumental in implementing the Pharmacovigilance Program of India (PvPI). It regularly sensitizes healthcare professionals about PvPI and disseminates drug safety alerts also sensitizing in antibiotics resistance , Drug addiction complications, Clinical Pharmacy, Prescription Audit.
The Department of Pharmacology is actively involved in multidisciplinary and collaborative research. Notable research areas include the development of innovative nano hydro formulations, such as biodegradable gels, films, and sprays, aimed at treating diabetic and non-diabetic wounds. The department also fosters a culture of research among medical undergraduates by encouraging and guiding them to participate in the ICMR Short Term Studentship (STS) programs?
